Procedure text is a text that is designed to describe how something is achieved through a sequence of actions or steps. procedure text begins with "How to ...". Examples such as "How to make a cup of tea", "How to Use the Computer"
Generic Stucture of Procedure Text
Goal: provides information about the intent and purpose of the procedure and predicts a conclusion.
Materials: contains a list of materials or materials needed to perform a procedure or steps.
Steps : a list of sequences of instructions/activities to achieve a goal in the correct sequence of steps.
Result: The result of a series of steps that have been carried out.
Characteristics of procedure text
Usually Uses Simple Present Tense with the formula (S+V1)
imperative form / command form,
Using action verbs, for example: make, take, boil, cook,
Using temporal conjunctions, for example: First, then, next, after that, last
Using conjunctions to sequence activities, for example then, while, etc.
Using adverbs (adverbs) to express detailed time, place, accurate ways, for example for five minutes, 2 hours, etc.
Using adverbs (adverbs) to express stages or sequences, for example the first, the second, the third, the last, etc.
Purpose of Procedure Text
The social purpose of procedure text is to show how something is done through sequence of steps which enable the reader to achieve the goal.
